About this topic
Digital technologies are reshaping how the world feeds itself and how more than one billion people make a living.
Advances in agriculture and technology have always been deeply intertwined. Indeed, agriculture stands among humanity’s earliest technologies, and digital is rapidly changing agricultural systems at all levels.
That’s why agriculture and farming are cross-cutting themes across Caribou’s work on climate resilience and sustainability, and livelihoods and prosperity. Broad communities are innovating, developing digital approaches to strengthen agricultural value chains, train smallholder farmers, improve weather forecasting, and tailor harvests to shifting climate conditions.
Caribou assists organizations in making smarter matches between technology and the real-world needs of smallholder farmers, and in building the ecosystems and inclusive markets to help farmers thrive.
- We partnered with the Mastercard Foundation to explore social agriculture—the use of social media by farmers—and grow the Agricultural Influencers Network.
- We supported various Earth Observation data service providers funded by the UK Space Agency and European Space Agency to develop solutions such as crop monitoring services, localized weather alerts, and irrigation assessment schemes for use by farmers across East Africa, West Africa, and Asia.
