This article discusses how Earth Observation (EO) data from satellites is emerging as a powerful tool to improve the transparency and reliability of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting. Investors and companies are using EO to track environmental impacts like deforestation, assess climate risks, and verify sustainability claims—especially in regions where on-the-ground data is limited or unavailable. By offering consistent, independent measurements at scale, EO data supports more informed decision-making and helps close critical information gaps. As adoption grows, clearer standards are needed to ensure the responsible use of this technology across ESG frameworks.
