Understanding the Impact of Earth Observation for Sustainable Urban Development
With the support of
Earth Observation for Sustainable Development (EO4SD) was a program from the European Space Agency (ESA) that aimed to integrate satellite information products and services, as “best-practice” environmental information, in the planning and implementation of the development projects, programs, and activities of international financial institutions with their respective developing country partners.
ESA commissioned this evaluation to understand the impact of the EO4SD: Sustainable Urban Development program, as well as the impact of Earth Observation (EO) for urban sustainability broadly. Alongside an overview of EO’s potential contributions to sustainable urban development and an impact evidence review of these contributions, the report provides a detailed evaluation of the EO4SD Urban program and recommendations to continue supporting the uptake of EO in sustainable urban development.
