Against a background of a lack of formal employment opportunities for many youth globally, the culture and creative industries provide potential for work. New and emerging technologies like cloud computing and AI are shaping and reshaping creative work. While these technologies provide opportunities for entrepreneurship and employment for young Ugandan creatives, they also present skills challenges.
This report draws on interviews and workshops with more than 80 creatives, experts, policymakers, and stakeholders in Uganda’s culture and creative industries. It discusses the benefits and challenges of digitalization for young creatives, the types of skills needed in light of increasing digitalization, and whether and how available skilling opportunities address these needs.
