Across the globe, millions of people are at an increasing risk due to rising sea levels, intense tropical cyclones, and other hydrometeorological hazards. The Asia-Pacific, home to nine of the ten most exposed cities to extreme events, witnesses daily losses of $200 million to these disasters.
The StoryMap explores how Fiji’s Ministry of Waterways and Agriculture is working to increase the resilience of coastal communities with Earth Observation (EO) tools, supported by Earth Observation for Sustainable Development: Forest Management and the Asian Development Bank. By using satellite imagery, the ministry developed detailed mangrove maps to inform the planning and execution of nature-based seawall developments, supporting coastal resilience in Fiji.
