Ethiopia is home to over 17 million hectares of forest, accounting for 15% of its total landmass. This vital ecosystem is under threat from deforestation, with the country losing a staggering 73,000 hectares of forest each year. The Oromia region is particularly important; it contains approximately 50% of Ethiopia’s forests, including a range of protected areas, wildlife reserves, and community-managed forests.

This StoryMap explores how the Oromia Forested Lanscape Programme, supported by Earth Observation (EO) for Sustainable Development: Forest Management, tested cutting-edge EO time series data analytics as an input to decisions about how to manage forests sustainably.
