Private Sector Digital Identity In Emerging Markets

With the support of

The digital identity industry is currently enjoying a resurgence of interest, as new technological innovations in biometrics, encryption, distributed ledgers, and smart devices have enabled new models for managing identity. Some of these innovations are complicating long-standing ideas about how we express, engage with, and manage our identities, while new organizational structures are challenging traditional roles and power relationships. This research explores these themes, with an aim to be speculative, opinionated, and forward-thinking. The key goal is to provide an understanding of how new business models and technologies in the private realm may be used in emerging markets—by firms, states, or NGOs—to provide more inclusive identity solutions.
