Miombo Forest Deforestation Assessment with Satellite Data
With the support of
The Miombo ecosystem in Mozambique is the largest tropical dry forest in Africa, spanning an area almost as vast as Australia. The forest is home to a diverse range of wildlife, making it a critical ecosystem. However, Miombo faces the threat of deforestation.
This StoryMap details the EO4SD Forest Management program’s support of three World Bank projects to protect Miombo: the Mozambique Forest Investment Project, the Mozambique Conservation Areas for Biodiversity and Development Project, and the Zambézia Integrated Landscape Management Program. Specifically, the EO4SD Forest Management consortium has improved forest management and conservation efforts by providing expertise in advanced Earth Observation technologies to provide essential information for monitoring and managing the Miombo forest.
