In 2025, Caribou produced M-KOPA’s Annual Impact Report, a flagship impact communications publication that blends quantitative data with human stories to illustrate M-KOPA’s impact across Africa.
M-KOPA’s 2025 report marks a milestone: more than 7 million customers served and over US$2 billion in credit unlocked since its founding. At the heart of this growth is a simple but transformative model—flexible financing for essential tools like smartphones, digital loans, insurance, and e-motorbikes. For the majority of M-KOPA’s customers, these are first-time opportunities to access financial services and participate in the digital economy.
The impact is clear. This year, 86% of customers reported improved quality of life, while 70% now use their M-KOPA product to generate income. Women make up 40% of active customers and 45% of agents, underscoring the company’s commitment to closing persistent gender gaps in access to technology and finance. At the same time, sustainability is being built into growth, with refurbished smartphones now making up 10% of sales in Kenya and more than 4,000 electric motorbikes financed.
M-KOPA’s journey from its first solar sale in 2010 to becoming a leading fintech demonstrates how inclusive finance can unlock both economic opportunity and climate solutions. By investing in local manufacturing, partnerships, and responsible governance, M-KOPA is shaping a future where Africa’s everyday earners can progress on their own terms.
