How Can Users Begin to Keep Value Digital, Longer?
FiDA Snapshot #6
With the support of
Many users still cash out digital money almost immediately. But when value stays digital—whether in a wallet or a savings account—it can unlock meaningful financial inclusion: savings, payments, and credit become more accessible and resilient. This Snapshot examines how to encourage users to store or save digital value for longer—and why that matters for both users and providers.
To support digital value staying digital, providers and ecosystem actors can:
- Design savings tools that reflect how people actually manage money—multiple goals, flexibility, and some friction.
- Reinvest in merchant payments to strengthen the case for storing digital funds.
- Use nudges like reminders and defaults to support saving behavior.
- Support humanitarian actors to adopt longer-term financial inclusion goals.
- Shift focus from credit toward tools that help users build financial resilience.
