This report is an overview of the Forest Management Cluster of Earth Observation for Sustainable Development (EO4SD), a European Space Agency initiative which aims to support international finance institutions and their client states to harness the benefits of Earth Observation (EO) in their development operations at national and international levels.
The EO4SD-Forest Management Cluster has the overall objective of demonstrating the utility and benefits of mainstreaming satellite EO-based products and services for improved forest management. The use of EO data for tropical forest monitoring is not yet operational in many countries. In this context the international finance institutions who fund forest management programs in developing countries have a strong role in facilitating the mainstreaming of the technology in their work practices.
This report includes the background of EO4SD-Forest Management, the themes addressed by the cluster, case studies of applications of EO4SD-Forest Management, and description of consortium members.
