Earth Observation for Environmental, Social, and Governance Schemes

GDA M&E Topical Overview

With the support of

Satellite Earth Observation (EO) can be a powerful tool in international development but is often underutilized. Global Development Assistance (GDA) is a global partnership to mainstream the use of satellite EO in development operations. Through GDA, the European Space Agency (ESA) partners with European service providers to facilitate the development of EO products for use by decision-makers in international financial institutions.

International financial institutions are increasingly realizing the potential use of EO for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Schemes. However, it is an area that is still not fully understood. To address this gap on behalf of GDA, under the Measurement and Evaluation for Global Development Assistance activity, Caribou Space published a topical overview of value of EO for ESG by international financial institutions.

This webinar, held on January 29, 2024, demonstrated the significant role ESG plays in development interventions and showcased the value that EO data brings to ESG. It featured Alex Chunet (ESA Representative at the World Bank), Dieter Wang (World Bank), Oliver Mundy (International Fund for Agricultural Development), and Rakhat Zhanuzakova (International Fund for Agricultural Development Tech), and was hosted by Carlotta Maucher (Caribou Space).
