Earth Observation for Public Health

With the support of

Satellite Earth Observation (EO) can be a powerful tool in international development but is often underutilized. Global Development Assistance (GDA) is a global partnership to mainstream the use of satellite EO in development operations. Through GDA, the European Space Agency (ESA) partners with European service providers to facilitate the development of EO products for use by decision-makers in international financial institutions.

International financial institutions are increasingly realizing the potential use of Earth Observation (EO) for public health. However, it is an area that is still not fully understood.

To address this gap, the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Global Development Assistance (GDA) program published a topical overview looking at the value of EO for public health by international financial institutions. This webinar featured presentations and panel discussions that highlighted the significant role of public health in development interventions and showcased the value that EO data brings to public health.

This webinar was held on September 18, 2024 and was hosted by Imperative Space and Caribou Space as part of the GDA Monitoring & Evaluation activity. It featured Claudia Vitolo (ESA), Lander Bosch (World Bank), Jae Kyoun Kim (Asian Development Bank), Christoph Aubrecht (GDA Programme Coordinator) and was hosted by Carlotta Maucher (Caribou Space).
