This report explores how young people in Ghana, Kenya, and Uganda are weaving digital technologies into their daily lives, often in ways that challenge assumptions about how technology is “used for development.” Drawing on interviews, focus groups, and expert analysis, the research reveals that mobile internet doing more than expanding access. It’s fundamentally shifting how people connect, learn, earn, and express themselves. This report argues that designing effective, inclusive programs means understanding and engaging with the full scope of people’s digital repertoires—including entertainment, social connections, faith, and aspirations.

The report introduces a new method—Digital Days—to trace how digital tools fit into a person’s full day. These time-lapse portraits illuminate how mobile phones, laptops, and apps interweave with work, worship, play, and relationships.
