Earth Observation (EO) offers powerful tools for large-scale forest monitoring, but uptake remains limited. The report “Adoption and Impact of Earth Observation for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” authored by Caribou for the European Space Agency, highlights five key barriers: data availability, accessibility, awareness, institutional acceptance, and local capacity.
The EO4SD-Forest Management project addresses these gaps by testing EO applications across six real-world use cases. With a strong monitoring and evaluation framework, the project is building the evidence needed to drive EO adoption and improve forest management outcomes globally.
