The Pan-African Women PhD Scholars Collective in AI & Livelihoods

WITH THE SUPPORT OF

Through The Pan-African Women PhD Scholars Collective, a partnership between Caribou and the Mastercard Foundation, we are building the next generation of leading researchers to explore the critical intersection of AI and the future of work.

Our inaugural 2025 cohort brings together seven brilliant emerging scholars from across the continent from Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Tanzania. Their diverse research investigates the vital link between artificial intelligence and livelihoods across essential sectors, including agriculture, education, and the creative economy.

Scholars in the collective gain direct access to mentorship from Caribou’s network of academic and industry leaders. The program also facilitates their participation in key AI convenings on the continent and provides dedicated support for publishing in research journals. To capstone this experience, each scholar will contribute a chapter to an edited volume to be published in 2026.
