With the support of
Nigeria’s agriculture sector faces growing pressure from climate variability, changing rainfall patterns, and the need to improve productivity across diverse farming systems. For the smallholder farmers who produce most of the country’s food, timely, locally relevant guidance on what to plant and when can make the difference between a resilient season and a failed one. Earth Observation can support the sector by translating climate, crop, and land data into practical advice for farmers and into better agricultural planning for the institutions that support them.
Earth Observation-Based Agricultural Innovations in Nigeria is a Nigerian–European partnership funded by the European Union under the Global Gateway strategy and implemented by the European Space Agency (ESA) together with Nigeria’s National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA). The project will strengthen agro-climatic resilience for smallholder farmers and Nigeria’s institutional capacity in climate services, data-driven agriculture, and Earth Observation–based decision support.
Caribou is part of the delivery consortium led by GAF AG. Our role focuses on promotion and outreach, events, and public-facing communications that make technical project results accessible to policymakers, practitioners, and youth audiences across Nigeria and West Africa.
Caribou is developing an editorial calendar of social media content, policy briefs, and short explainer videos to communicate project learning and support engagement with priority audiences. This includes a regular series of insight pieces situating the project within the broader Earth Observation and digital-agriculture landscape. We are also leading feasibility and scoping for a regional conference on AI-driven agro-climatic resilience, including audience mapping, agenda design, venue assessment, and budget planning.
As the project moves through delivery, Caribou is applying its communications, strategy advisory, and convening expertise to connect Earth Observation capabilities with the practical needs of climate-smart agriculture. The goal is to ensure that space-enabled insights reach farmers and decision-makers shaping Nigeria’s food systems and build towards a regional conversation on climate-resilient farming across West Africa.
