Global Development Assistance: Urban Sustainability

With the support of

More than half the global population live in cities, and over 80% of global GDP is generated in cities. Well-planned, compact cities make public spending on infrastructure and services economically viable and facilitate generation and diffusion of knowledge. However, poorly planned urbanization leads to environmental destruction, increased carbon emissions, transport congestion, poor air quality, and urban sprawl.

The European Space Agency’s Global Development Assistance: Urban Sustainability aims to mainstream the use of satellite Earth Observation in ~10 countries, in partnership with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The project focused on topics such as urban planning and land administration, urban transport, urban environment and health, and urban climate resilience.

Caribou supports the user requirements gathering, and leads on the communication of the wider consortium’s activities through brochures, flyers, blogs, social media, videos, and interactive communications tools.
