Earth Observation for Sustainable Development: Urban Development

With the support of

In partnership with

Earth Observation for Urban Development (EO4SD) was an initiative by the European Space Agency to increasing the use of Earth Observation (EO) in development within international financial institutions and the countries in which they work. Urban sustainability was identified as a high-priority area under this initiative. As urban areas continue to grow, governments face significant challenges, from infrastructure to service provision to climate resilience.

EO4SD: Urban Development aimed to demonstrate the benefits of EO-based geo-information products and services to support urban planning tasks in development initiatives by the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, and Global Environment Facility. Case studies included 32 cities across the globe and services such as mapping of urban green spaces, monitoring of air quality, and generating maps of flood risk.

Caribou provided an impact evaluation of this initiative.
