Forcibly displaced people face significant barriers to accessing credit in host countries, limiting their ability to achieve self-reliance despite their entrepreneurial drive.
Caribou examined the feasibility of cross-border data sharing—including traditional credit histories—to expand financial access for forcibly displaced people in Uganda. It also assessed how alternative data generated within the host country, such as mobile transactions and digital footprints, could be leveraged to promote credit inclusion.
By identifying pathways for data-driven financial access, this project provided insights for policymakers, financial institutions, and development partners seeking to empower forcibly displaced people with the financial tools they need to rebuild their lives.
