Africa’s Earth Observation market is growing quickly, with increasing demand for locally developed tools that can support climate resilience, natural resource management, infrastructure planning, agriculture, and other development priorities. Startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are central to that growth. With targeted support they can convert technical capability into commercially viable products, stronger partnerships, and investment-ready businesses.
The Africa–EU Space Partnership Programme (AESPP) is a co-owned African–European initiative funded by the European Commission under the Global Gateway strategy. Its Continental Innovation activity is jointly implemented by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the African Space Agency (AfSA). Through this activity, AESPP supports African Earth Observation (EO) startups and SMEs with training and innovation support. Caribou delivers the Continental Innovation activity alongside GrowthAfrica, Novaspace, and Planetek Italia. Our role brings together strategy advisory, promotion and outreach, startup incubation, and ecosystem engagement. Caribou leads communications and outreach for the Continental Innovation program, translating a complex multi-partner initiative into clear public-facing stories, case studies, social media, and promotional materials. Across the program, our focus is on making the opportunity visible, accessible, and useful to African startups and their partners.
Caribou also contributes to mapping actors across the African EO ecosystem—startups, universities, incubators, innovation agencies, and industry players—hosts a matchmaking event connecting startups with investors and industry partners, and serves as lead mentor within the Business Innovation Programme.
