Bio

Shiemaa advises investors on how to deploy capital in frontier and emerging markets, with a focus on enterprises that generate employment, improve livelihoods, and deliver measurable social and environmental impact. Shiemaa consults on Impact Investment Strategy at Caribou, where she contributes to evaluating investment opportunities across Africa’s digital and AI-enabled economy. Working closely with program leadership, she develops investment and impact theses, defines investability criteria, and assesses potential portfolio companies through financial analysis, operational review, and impact potential. Her work directly informs investment decisions and supports investor and program teams with concise, investment-grade analysis.

Previously, Shiemaa advised impact investors, DFIs, and foundations on investment strategy, due diligence, and portfolio construction, and supported enterprises in raising and structuring growth capital across technology, agriculture, health, and energy. She led and contributed to multi-million-dollar capital mobilization efforts, conducted primary research and ecosystem assessments in frontier and emerging markets, and delivered blended-finance design, advisory, and technical-assistance programs for organizations including Supivaa, Open Capital Advisors, Innovate UK, the Skoll Foundation, the African Development Bank, and UN agencies. Across these roles, she operated in senior-facing environments, interfacing directly with investors, company leadership, and policymakers on commercially sensitive work.

Shiemaa holds an MBA from the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School, where she was a Skoll Scholar, and degrees in development planning and electrical and electronics engineering. She is based between Kenya, Egypt, and the UK.

What I value most at Caribou is the combination of sharp analysis and practical decision-making. The team brings intellectual discipline to complex questions around technology, labor, and investment, and the work consistently translates research into action.
