Bio
Genevieve examines sociotechnical questions of how bias in AI is perpetuated and how to advance inclusion in gender-equitable AI programs.
She is Founding Director of the Responsible AI Initiative at the UC Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research Lab and serves as professional faculty at Berkeley Haas, where she teaches on responsible AI innovation and management. She is also Interim Co-Director of the AI Policy Hub at UC Berkeley, a research affiliate at the Minderoo Centre for Technology & Democracy at Cambridge University, and a research affiliate at the Technology & Management Centre for Development at University of Oxford.
She previously served as Responsible AI Fellow at USAID and worked on digital inclusion and women’s economic empowerment at the International Center for Research on Women and UN Women. Her research and work has been published in journals such as Big Data & Society and California Management Review, as well as shared in Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Social Stanford Innovation Review, and more. Her research has also been shared at leading AI conferences including the International Conference on Machine Learning, the ACM Conference on Fairness, Accountability & Transparency, and the Academy of Management. Genevieve is based in the Bay Area of California.
